Following another dramatic weekend in Singapore, Formula 1 heads to Austin, Texas, for the United States Grand Prix, with Ferrari and ZYN holding an increasingly commanding lead in the Snus Vikings Nicotine Pouch Formula 1 Championship.
Charles Leclerc's second place in Singapore, combined with Lewis Hamilton's sixth place and their strong performances in the Sprint, has extended Ferrari's advantage over McLaren and VELO to 105 points. Hamilton continues to lead the drivers' standings, but Leclerc has reduced the gap to just 14 points, while Lando Norris remains third, a further 14 points behind.

For McLaren, the challenge is becoming increasingly difficult. Although Norris and Oscar Piastri both scored useful points in Singapore, Ferrari's stronger combined performance means the team has now lost ground in three consecutive Grand Prix weekends.
Austin offers an opportunity to reverse that trend, but the Circuit of The Americas has traditionally been a happy hunting ground for both Ferrari drivers. With Max Verstappen also enjoying a resurgence and Kimi Antonelli approaching his first World Championship, the battle for points promises to be fiercely contested.
Singapore Strengthens Ferrari's Position
Ferrari's recent recovery continued in Singapore, where Leclerc produced an excellent performance to finish second behind Max Verstappen. The Monegasque driver had qualified on the front row and briefly challenged the Red Bull into the opening corner before settling into second place, which he maintained throughout the race.

Hamilton's weekend was rather more complicated. He finished second in Saturday's rain-affected Sprint, ahead of Leclerc in third, giving Ferrari an excellent start to the weekend. However, Sunday's Grand Prix proved less successful after a strategy decision left Hamilton vulnerable to the recovering McLarens and Kimi Antonelli. He eventually finished sixth, having spent much of the race running considerably higher.
McLaren also experienced a difficult Sprint, with Norris and Piastri colliding during the closing stages. Piastri retired while Norris recovered to eighth, collecting just one point. Sunday's race was more productive, with Norris finishing fourth and Piastri fifth, but the damage to their championship challenge had already been done.
Across the Sprint and Grand Prix, Ferrari collected 39 points through Hamilton and Leclerc, compared with McLaren's 23. The result extended Ferrari's advantage from 89 to 105 points, its largest lead for several races.
Verstappen dominated the Singapore Grand Prix, securing his second consecutive victory following his success in Malaysia. His improved form adds another complication for Ferrari and McLaren, as Red Bull increasingly looks capable of occupying positions that might otherwise have been available to the Nicotine Pouch Championship competitors.
The Nicotine Pouch Championship Before Austin
Ferrari and ZYN now hold the first two positions in the drivers' standings, while McLaren and VELO face a substantial deficit in the teams' competition.
Drivers' Championship
| Position | Driver | Team / Partner | Points |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Lewis Hamilton | Ferrari / ZYN | 229 |
| 2 | Charles Leclerc | Ferrari / ZYN | 215 |
| 3 | Lando Norris | McLaren / VELO | 201 |
| 4 | Oscar Piastri | McLaren / VELO | 138 |
| 5 | Valtteri Bottas | Cadillac / 77 | 0 |
Hamilton's advantage over Leclerc has fallen from 23 points before Singapore to just 14, while Norris remains another 14 points behind. The competition between the three leading drivers is therefore considerably closer than the teams' championship might suggest.
Leclerc has been particularly impressive during the past three weekends, moving ahead of Norris in Malaysia and consolidating second place with his Singapore podium. Hamilton remains the leader, but his teammate is now close enough to challenge for first place if their results continue to differ.
Teams' Championship
| Position | Team / Partner | Points |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Ferrari / ZYN | 444 |
| 2 | McLaren / VELO | 339 |
| 3 | Cadillac / 77 | 0 |
Ferrari's 105-point advantage is a substantial improvement on the 52-point margin it held following the Spanish Grand Prix. McLaren's strong summer performances had threatened to transform the competition, but Ferrari's consistency in Azerbaijan, Malaysia and Singapore has restored its control.
With six Grands Prix remaining, McLaren still has opportunities to close the gap, although it will need considerably stronger results than those achieved during the past month.
Hamilton and Leclerc Return to a Favourite Circuit
The United States Grand Prix takes place at the Circuit of The Americas, where both Ferrari drivers have enjoyed considerable success.

Hamilton has won five times at the Austin circuit, beginning with the inaugural race in 2012. His subsequent victories with Mercedes established him as one of the venue's most successful drivers, and his familiarity with the circuit could be particularly valuable as Ferrari attempts to maintain its recent momentum.
Leclerc also has positive memories of Austin, having won the 2024 United States Grand Prix and secured pole position in 2023. His recent performances suggest he could again be competitive, particularly if Ferrari can reproduce the pace that brought him second place in Singapore.
The 5.513-kilometre circuit presents a very different challenge from Marina Bay. Its dramatic uphill first corner, rapid changes of direction and long back straight reward aerodynamic efficiency and precise car control, while the slower final sector places considerable emphasis on traction and tyre management.
Unlike Singapore, where overtaking is notoriously difficult, Austin provides several opportunities for drivers to recover positions. That could benefit Ferrari if either Hamilton or Leclerc encounters difficulties in qualifying, although the team's priority will be to avoid the strategic mistakes that have occasionally undermined otherwise promising weekends.
For the Nicotine Pouch Championship, another strong combined result would make Ferrari's advantage increasingly difficult for McLaren to overcome.
McLaren and VELO Need a Change of Fortune
McLaren arrives in Texas searching for the form that made it so competitive during the summer. Norris's consecutive victories in Hungary and the Netherlands appeared to signal a sustained challenge to Ferrari, but recent performances have been disappointing.
The team has struggled to maintain its earlier pace, while the collision between Norris and Piastri during the Singapore Sprint cost valuable points. Although both drivers recovered to finish inside the top five on Sunday, Ferrari still extended its advantage.

Austin presents an opportunity for McLaren to respond. Norris secured pole position at the circuit in 2024, demonstrating his ability to extract performance from the car through its demanding high-speed sections. The team is also bringing further developments to Texas, although their effectiveness will only become clear once competitive running begins.
Piastri will be particularly keen to recover after his Singapore Sprint retirement. His contribution is essential if McLaren is to challenge Ferrari in the teams' standings, where the points accumulated by both drivers determine the outcome.
With Norris now 28 points behind Hamilton and 14 behind Leclerc, the British driver also needs to begin reducing the deficit in the individual competition. A strong result in Austin could bring him back into contention for second place, but another Ferrari-dominated weekend would leave him with an increasingly difficult task.
Antonelli and Verstappen Could Influence the Outcome
As in previous races, the Nicotine Pouch Championship will be influenced by drivers who are not part of our selected competition.
Kimi Antonelli arrives in Austin with a 102-point lead over George Russell in the official Formula 1 World Championship. The Mercedes driver has won eight Grands Prix this season and could mathematically secure his first World Championship this weekend, although doing so would require a victory and particularly poor results for his closest rivals.

Verstappen, meanwhile, has rediscovered his winning form at precisely the right time. Following victories in Malaysia and Singapore, he returns to a circuit where he has won four times, making him a strong contender for another victory.
If Mercedes and Red Bull occupy several of the leading positions, the points available to Ferrari and McLaren will inevitably be reduced. Conversely, any mistakes, reliability problems or unexpected strategy decisions among the frontrunners could create opportunities for our championship drivers.
Austin's combination of overtaking opportunities and demanding tyre management makes those possibilities particularly interesting, especially with the championship entering its final stages.
Cadillac and 77 Continue Their Search for Points
For Valtteri Bottas and Cadillac, the United States Grand Prix represents an important occasion during the American team's first Formula 1 season.
Bottas endured another difficult weekend in Singapore, finishing 19th after a challenging race in which Cadillac struggled to match the pace of its established rivals. The team remains without a World Championship point, leaving Bottas and 77 at the bottom of our Nicotine Pouch Championship standings.
Austin offers the opportunity to demonstrate progress in front of an American audience, although expectations remain modest. Cadillac is still developing its car and race operations, and competing against teams with considerably more experience has proved difficult throughout the season.
Bottas knows the Circuit of The Americas well from his years with Mercedes, but the team will need both improved performance and favourable circumstances if it is to challenge for points. The circuit's overtaking opportunities may provide some encouragement, particularly if an eventful race disrupts the established order.
Can McLaren Close the Gap in Texas?
The United States Grand Prix begins a demanding sequence of three consecutive race weekends, with Mexico City and São Paulo following immediately afterwards. That makes Austin an important opportunity for Ferrari to consolidate its advantage or for McLaren to begin another recovery.
Hamilton leads the Nicotine Pouch Championship, but Leclerc's recent performances have made the individual competition increasingly interesting. The two Ferrari drivers are separated by just 14 points, with Norris another 14 behind, meaning a single strong weekend could significantly alter the order.
The teams' competition is less finely balanced. Ferrari's 105-point lead gives ZYN a substantial advantage, and McLaren will need both Norris and Piastri to finish ahead of the Ferraris if VELO is to begin reducing that margin.
Verstappen's recent resurgence and Antonelli's championship ambitions add further uncertainty, while Cadillac and Bottas continue searching for their first breakthrough.
The Circuit of The Americas has produced some memorable races since joining the Formula 1 calendar in 2012, and this weekend promises another intriguing contest. Ferrari and ZYN arrive with the championship advantage, but McLaren and VELO have already demonstrated how quickly fortunes can change.
With six races remaining, the question is whether Austin will allow Ferrari to strengthen its position still further or provide the beginning of another McLaren comeback.
